The primary factors to consider when determining your kayak paddle length is your height as well as the width of your kayak.
Using the chart below, take the width of your kayak on the top horizontal axis, and then take your height on the left vertical axis, where they meet is your recommended paddle size.
| Under 23" | 23" - 28" | 28" - 32" | Over 32" | |
| Under 5' | 210 cm | 210 cm | 220 cm | 230 cm |
| 5' - 5'6" | 210 cm | 220 cm | 230 cm | 240 cm |
| 5'6" - 6' | 220 cm | 220 cm | 230 cm | 240 cm |
| Over 6' | 220 cm | 230 cm | 240 cm | 250 cm |
Consider sizing 5-10 cm or more longer for:
- A more relaxed, casual paddling pace
- A true low-angle forward paddling stroke
- Higher seat position like sit-on-tops and frame seats
- Flared, flat-bottomed, pontoon and fish-form (wider ahead of cockpit) hull shapes
Consider sizing 5-10 cm shorter for:
- A more aggressive, active, or endurance focused paddling pace
- Dynamic, coastal play boating, lumpy waters and rock gardening
- A true high-angle forward paddling stroke
- Tumblehome (narrower above the waterline) and swede-form (wider behind the cockpit) hull shapes
The Werner Camano Fiberglass Straight Shaft Kayak Paddle features low angle mid-sized blade design. The Camano provides the perfect combination for paddlers who want gentle power and use a relaxed all around touring stroke. This paddle features a straight, standard diameter carbon shaft, coupled with an easy-to-use adjustable ferrule system, and stiff, lightweight, fiberglass blades. The mid size blades offer the perfect combination for paddlers who want power yet use a relaxed all around touring stroke. Features
- Premium Performance uses material choice and manufacturing skill to allow for a perfect combination of light swing weight and stiffness. Fiberglass blade construction gives you a compromise between swing weight and value.
- Mid-size blades fit the widest range of paddlers.
- Dihedral allows for smooth and stable forward paddling, a core philosophy for Werner.
- Optimized flex and strength. Countless hours of testing have led Werner to a feel that is unmatched on the water. Choose the carbon blend Straight or carbon weave Neutral Bent shaft in Standard Diameter or Small Diameter.
- Brightly colored translucent fiberglass laminate blades in solids or patterns.
- The Smart View Adjustable ferrule is the most simple, precise fitting on the market. The solid feel of a 1-piece paddle and nothing to snag your gear. (US Patent # 6881111)
Low Angle Blade Shape:
Low Angle is the most popular as it is more universal, primarily being more relaxed, but still allowing folks to paddle at a higher performance. The Low Angle designs have longer and narrower blades designed match this lower entry angle to the water with the perfect use of the blades surface area. The true benefit to low-angle is for those less likely to work on developing their forward stroke skills, and want to take the sport at a more casual, recreational level, the lower hand position (focus on keeping your top hand at shoulder height throughout the stroke) of this style puts significantly less wear on the smaller support muscles like shoulders, traps, biceps and triceps. Good technique can be developed and used with a low angle style, and is the choice for many who just prefer this body position and the ability to switch back and forth. The low angle designs have substantially more dihedral, to keep the blade stable as it travels further from the side of the boat.
