Outdoor Store Retail Associate

Port Gamble, Washington

Longtime kayak and mountain bike shop in beautiful and historic Port Gamble, Washington is seeking a part-time retail associate to join the team. You will be responsible for selling products, merchandise, and services at our retail storefront, as well as online and over the phone. The ideal candidate should have a passion for outdoor activities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay Range: $17.50 - $21.50 per hour

Job Description

We are seeking a Retail Associate to become an integral part of our team! You will be responsible for selling products, merchandise, and services at our retail storefront, as well as online and over the phone.

The successful candidate will need to be capable of providing exceptional customer service, generating sales, and helping customers find the right outdoor gear and apparel for their needs. The ideal candidate should have a passion for outdoor activities and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Responsibilities:

  • Greeting customers and identifying customer needs
  • Provide product information, advice, guidance, and recommendations to customers
  • Understand and explain products and services
  • Enter and process customer orders and sales transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Assist customers with loading purchases
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints
  • Facilitate kayak, bike, and outdoor gear rentals
  • Assist with car and truck roof rack installations
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock merchandise as needed
  • Ability to move and transfer kayaks and gear, weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Maintain a clean and orderly store including janitorial duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager and other management as needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in sales, customer service, or other related fields a plus
  • Basic computer skills and experience with with point-of-sale systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with one or more core activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, mountain biking)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and fluid work environment
  • Ability to build rapport with customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Willingness to learn and grow
