Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Operations
- Oversee the daily operation of all programs, including classes, tours, rentals, events, and program locations
- Ensure all programs meet Olympic Outdoor Center standards for safety, quality, and customer experience
- Plan, organize, and execute large events and multi-day tours, while coordinating with the Operations Manager
- Manage program logistics including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Oversee program-related office operations (email, phone, reservations, point-of-sale processing)
- Uphold and consistently communicate organizational policies, procedures, and risk management practices
Staff Management & Development
- Supervise, schedule, and support programs staff (instructors, guides, seasonal employees)
- Foster positive employee relations and a strong team culture
- Assist with training, mentoring, and evaluation of instructional staff
- Support hiring and onboarding of program employees as needed
Instruction & Guiding (Hands-On Role)
- Teach kayaking classes, including Smart Start and other instructional programs
- Instruct youth camps and specialty programs
- Guide tours and events on the water and on land
- Deliver clear instruction on paddling technique, safety, and equipment use
- Monitor weather, water conditions, and environmental factors to ensure participant and staff safety
- Prepare, organize, inspect, and maintain program equipment
Equipment, Fleet & Facilities Oversight
- Oversee program equipment maintenance and preventative care
- Manage rental locations and coordinate logistics across sites
- Drive company vehicles and trailers as required
Program Growth & Development
- Contribute to the development of new programs and experiences
- Identify opportunities for program improvement and operational efficiency
- Support the long-term growth and evolution of Olympic Outdoor Center programs

Required Qualifications
Required / Strongly Preferred Experience
- Demonstrated experience managing and supervising employees, including scheduling, training, and day-to-day leadership
- Proven ability to build, lead, and maintain a positive, collaborative team culture
- Hands-on experience in outdoor programs, guiding, instruction, or operations
- Strong working knowledge of sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and/or Bicycle maintenance.
- Experience making sound decisions in dynamic, weather- and risk-dependent settings
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate company vehicles and trailers
Certifications
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
- Kayak Instructor Certification (ACA, BCU/BCU equivalent, or similar) is a bonus but not required

- Basic operational and technical proficiency with scheduling, reservations, and point-of-sale systems
- Commitment to safety culture, continuous improvement, and professional growth
Physical & ADA Requirements
- Ability to move throughout shop, office, docks, and outdoor program sites
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Ability to lift and carry equipment, including kayaks, up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and keyboard for extended periods
