John Kuntz is the founder and owner of Olympic Outdoor Center, where he has been inspiring paddlers since 1986. A lifelong kayaker with over four decades on the water, John is an expert in whitewater, surf, and expedition paddling. His passion for adventure has taken him on numerous notable expeditions, including an epic 1,200 mile journey down the Columbia River. John’s knowledge of long-distance and expedition kayaking is unmatched, and he brings that same spirit of discovery to every student he coaches. Whether you're just beginning your paddling journey or preparing for your own expedition, John’s depth of experience and coaching background make him an invaluable mentor.

Beyond his personal paddling pursuits, John has made a lasting impact on the Pacific Northwest paddling community. One of John's most enduring legacies is the creation of the Kitsap Peninsula National Water Trail, a 371-mile route officially recognized by the National Park Service as part of the National Water Trails System. This milestone was made possible through his collaboration with the Olympic Kayak Club, NK Trails Association, Kitsap County, the Suquamish and Skallam tribes, and Visit Kitsap Peninsula. His dedication to access, conservation, and community continues to shape the future of paddlesports in the region and beyond.

John’s always planning his next big paddle. Ask him about his upcoming Snake River paddle project, or any of his other past expeditions! If you are interested in long distance paddling, John’s knowledge is unparalleled.
