Rental Associate (Seasonal)

Olympic Outdoor Center is hiring friendly, reliable Seasonal Rental Associates to support our summer kayak and bike rental operations in Poulsbo and Port Gamble.

Rental Associates play a key role in creating an outstanding guest experience—from welcoming customers and fitting gear, to preparing equipment and helping visitors launch their outdoor adventure.

This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys working outside, staying active, and being part of a fun, fast-paced team environment.

Job Description

  • Status: Seasonal, Part-Time or Full-Time
  • Season: May – September
  • Hours: Approximately 15–40 hours per week depending on demand
  • Schedule: Includes weekends and holidays
  • Locations: Poulsbo - Waterfront (Kayak & Paddleboard Rentals) & Port Gamble (Kayak & Bike Rentals)

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Rental Support

  • Greet customers and provide a welcoming, professional experience
  • Assist guests with selecting the right rental equipment for their adventure
  • Explain rental procedures, safety expectations, and basic equipment use
  • Answer questions about local routes, trails, and on-water conditions

Kayak & Bike Rental Operations

  • Prepare kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, and gear for daily rentals
  • Fit guests with properly sized PFDs, helmets, and accessories
  • Support safe launches and returns at the waterfront
  • Assist with bike check-outs, basic adjustments, and trail recommendations

Equipment Care & Organization

  • Clean, inspect, and organize rental gear after each use
  • Help maintain a tidy, efficient rental area and storage space
  • Report equipment damage or maintenance needs to supervisors
  • Support basic preventative upkeep of gear and facilities

Team & Operational Support

  • Work closely with guides, instructors, and shop staff during busy periods
  • Assist with special events, group rentals, and waterfront logistics
  • Help with opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Maintain a positive, solution-oriented attitude during high-volume days

Qualifications

Required

  • Friendly, dependable, and customer-service oriented
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a physically active role
  • Ability to communicate clearly with guests of all ages and experience levels
  • Willingness to learn equipment systems and safety procedures
  • Reliable transportation and punctual attendance

Preferred

  • Experience in outdoor recreation, retail, tourism, or hospitality
  • Familiarity with kayaking, biking, or local outdoor routes
  • Comfort lifting equipment and working around water
  • Ability to drive company vehicles or assist with trailers is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry kayaks, bikes, and equipment (up to ~75 lbs)
  • Ability to work on docks, beaches, gravel, and uneven terrain
  • Ability to stand, move, and work outdoors for extended periods
