- Tour Schedule: Evening and late-night shifts (Typical tour hours: 7/8pm – 12am / 1am)

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in evening hours and enjoys guiding unique outdoor adventures.
Key Responsibilities
Bioluminescence Night Tours
- Lead guided nighttime kayak tours focused on bioluminescence viewing
- Provide clear pre-trip briefings on safety, expectations, and group pacing
- Create a magical, informative, and memorable experience for guests on the water
- Share local knowledge about marine life, tides, and the bioluminescent ecosystem
Nighttime Safety & Leadership
- Maintain strong awareness of darkness-specific hazards, marine traffic, and changing conditions
- Monitor weather, wind, tides, and guest comfort throughout the tour
- Make responsible, confident decisions to ensure group safety at all times
- Respond calmly to unexpected situations in low-light environments
Equipment & Waterfront Operations
- Assist with evening setup and late-night breakdown of kayaks and safety gear
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned, stored, and ready for the next tour
- Perform basic inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Support smooth launch and landing operations in the dark
Guest Experience & Professionalism
- Provide outstanding customer service and represent Olympic Outdoor Center positively
- Help guests feel comfortable paddling at night, including beginners
- Work closely with fellow guides and waterfront staff to ensure seamless operations
- Maintain a calm, friendly, and confident presence on every trip
Cross-Training & Operational Support (Optional)
Depending on scheduling needs, this role may include opportunities to support other Olympic Outdoor Center operations, such as:
- Rental check-in and guest support
- Assisting as a rental associate during peak hours
- Supporting events or daytime programs
- General waterfront operations and gear logistics
This flexibility helps create a well-rounded seasonal team and provides additional hours when tours are not running.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong kayaking skills and comfort paddling in evening conditions
- Ability to lead groups professionally and communicate clearly
- Current(or ability to obtain) CPR and First Aid certification
- Dependable availability for late-night tour schedules
- Positive, guest-focused attitude and strong situational awareness
Preferred
- Prior guiding experience (kayak, outdoor trips, or eco-tours)
- Familiarity with tides, currents, and navigation in marine environments
- Experience working with tourists, families, or first-time paddlers
- Night guiding or low-light leadership experience is a plus

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry kayaks and gear (up to ~75 lbs)
- Ability to work on docks, beaches, and uneven terrain at night
- Ability to paddle for extended periods and assist guests on the water
- Ability to load/unload equipment during evening operations
