Bike Mechanic (Seasonal)

Olympic Outdoor Center is seeking a Seasonal Bike Mechanic to support our growing bike rental and cycling programs based in Port Gamble, WA. This role is essential to growing our bike services and keeping our rental fleet safe, reliable, and ready for daily adventures.

The Bike Mechanic works closely with our operations and programs team to maintain bikes, support customers, and ensure a high-quality rental experience throughout the busy summer season.

This is a seasonal position with the potential to grow into a full-time, year-round role as our bike programs expand.

Job Description

Status: Seasonal, Part-Time/Full-Time (May–September)
Schedule: Primarily daytime hours (9:00am–5:00pm) Weekend availability required
Future Opportunity: Potential for year-round employment based on performance and program growth
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage (DOE)

Core Responsibilities

Bike Fleet Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform daily inspections and tune-ups on rental and program bikes
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues including drivetrain, brakes, shifting, wheels, and tires
  • Maintain e-bike systems as needed
  • Complete preventative maintenance to ensure fleet safety and longevity
  • Keep service records and communicate repair needs to the team

Rental & Customer Support

  • Assist with bike check-outs, fittings, and customer orientation
  • Help ensure bikes are properly adjusted for rider comfort and safety
  • Provide basic trail and equipment guidance to renters when needed
  • Support a positive, welcoming customer experience at our Port Gamble location

Shop & Site Support

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and tool system
  • Assist with bike washing, staging, and daily fleet readiness
  • Support shuttle prep, trailer loading, and event logistics as needed
  • Work collaboratively with guides, instructors, and operations staff

  • Communicate clearly with staff and customers
  • Remain flexible and solution-oriented in a fast-paced seasonal environment

Experience & Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a bike mechanic or in a professional shop setting preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of modern bike components and repair practices
  • Comfortable working on mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes (or willing to learn)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple repairs efficiently
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive a passenger van is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move bikes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in variable weather
