The Shogun uses Werner's most advanced technology in this river running paddle. As powerful as its name suggests, the rivers that paddlers take the Sho-Gun often need some aggression to navigate each horizon line. Read More
It takes more than experience to keep you in the right line on a big red river. The Werner Sho-Gun Straight Shaft Carbon Paddle provides the power and smooth, river-slicing performance you need to accelerate out of eddies and shoot tight narrows with precision. The large, buoyant blade and straight shaft yield efficient strokes for demanding trips down any volume of water, while the fiberglass shaft and lightweight carbon blade keeps the Sho-Gun stiff, responsive, and powerful. Best of all, Werner reinforced the edges with a combination of Dynel and KEVLAR to protect the carbon blade from wear and tear intrinsic to whitewater kayaking
Straight shaft kayak paddles are the most common choice among paddlers and are ideal for those that like a traditional, simple feel. Straight paddles will save weight and cost while allowing for more variety in hand position.

With a more pronounced tip and more surface area above the center of the blade, this design is optimized for a better forward stroke. So for the core elements of river running, pulling yourself through or over holes and drops, breaking in and out of current and ferrying across current, these blades are your best choice. The best white water boaters in the world believe in our designs. Werner's white water designs have a slight dihedral for smooth vertical maneuvering strokes. Note we also flatten the back face spine to aid in these strokes.
BOMBER = Reliable. Werner's legendary bomber reputation has given paddlers decades of confidence on the most extreme rivers across the world. With utmost attention to detail, design and craftsmanship, Werner shafts are all handmade at their production facility in Sultan WA, USA. Werner is able to place our choice of fiberglass and carbon materials exactly where it's needed. The result is an unmatched combination of flex, weight and of course strength. With advanced design and materials in the blades and shafts, look no further than Werner to see who the leaders in white water are. Whether you go with straight shaft, or neutral bent, Werner shafts have a unique feel. Notice the texture, the indexing. Designed to give you more comfort and control and to be able to feel the precision of every one of your strokes.

Paddles with a river running blade shape will have a more pronounced tip and larger portion of the surface area above the center line of the blade. This allows for an earlier more powerful catch providing a more powerful forward stroke, making them ideal for river running, creeking or coastal rock gardening.
