Programs Director

At Olympic Outdoor Center we have been promoting outdoor adventures with unmatched customer service and top notch guiding and instruction since 1986. Our employees have been paddling on the rivers, in the surf and touring all over the world. It is our goal to provide a fun, safe environment and community for all; in order to nurture and inspire exploration in the outdoors.

The Programs Director is responsible for supervising, scheduling, and training staff, for the management of program operations of Olympic Outdoor Center, for guiding sea kayak trips, instructional classes, camps, and for overseeing equipment maintenance and upkeep.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Job Specific

  • Oversee and manage up to 30 employees
  • Create schedules
  • Maintain tour/class reservations
  • Organizing large events/tours
  • Invoicing
  • Email response
  • Consciousness of surroundings-Ability to read weather and
    water
  • Preform land/water rescues 
  • Drive a van and trainer
  • Operate and maintain all rentals
  • Customer Support in store and over the telephone

Instructor/Guide

  • Provide an outstanding, safe, and educational experience
    to students on land and in the water
  • Explain and demonstrate proper kayaking or SUP techniques
    and equipment care
  • Prepare customers for a safe experience by providing
    thorough introductions to equipment and safety requirements
  • Perform equipment inspections and complete preventative
    maintenance projects
  • Monitor changing weather and water traffic conditions and
    make appropriate decisions to ensure safety of students and staff.
  • Accurately document and organize class related paperwork
  • Prepare and clean up materials and equipment
  • Lead and guide clients on an informative tour

Requirements

Education

High School Diploma

Experience

  • Technical Knowledge of Kayaking/SUP and Teaching
    Experience Preferred. Must have or able to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR
    card.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Excellent tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients,
    customers, and fellow employees 
  • Excellent communication, decision making, logistical, and
    organizational skills
  • Ability to use extensive experience and judgment to plan
    and accomplish goals 
  • Ability to work independently and with teams of
    colleagues
  • Flexible approach in handling multiple projects and
    timelines 
  • Accurate keyboarding ~ at least 50 wpm 
  • Computer experience in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Basic mathematical skills 
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement 
  • Ability to accept and give constructive criticism
  • Ability to remain calm, thing clearly and act quickly in
    case of an emergency
  • Comfortable and effective in public speaking
