About Us

John Kuntz

Owner and Founder of Olympic Outdoor Center and KayakProShop.com.
John is the OOC man with the master plan. He started OOC as a whitewater rafting company, then whitewater kayaking before falling in love with sea kayaking. He has kayaked for 30+ years, from Alaska to Baja.

John also fishes, mountain bikes, works with numerous groups to protect and preserve local land and water trails, and occasionally slip-n-slides. He is pictured here with his son Keith. Here are some photos of John's most recent trips:

Mikail Dash-Green

Program Director, Sea Kayak Guide and Instructor.               Born in Indianola, WA, Mikail got his start paddling along the shores of the Puget Sound at a young age. As his love for this great activity and mode of exploration grew, he took classes with the Mountaineers and the National Outdoor Leadership School. The pinnacle of his experience to date has been a sea-to-summit semester and 32-day unsupported sea kayak expedition in Chilean Patagonia.

Mikail is a certified Wilderness EMT, and is keen to all forms of human-powered outdoor pursuits. He couldn't imagine a better job then working at OOC as a facilitator of enriching outdoor experiences for people of all ages and abilities. When not at OOC you can find Mikail finishing his undergraduate in Squamish, BC, or in his vegetable garden.

Spring Courtright

Sea Kayak and SUP Guide and Instructor.
Spring has paddled on the Kitsap Peninsula for many years and has been an outdoor recreation/environmental education instructor for 15+ years. She's taught sea kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, ropes courses, snowboarding and dogsledding through companies like Outward Bound, Naturalists At Large, YMCA Earth Service Corps and the Colorado Mountain College. Spring is an avid naturalist who takes her sidekick, Cricket, with her everywhere she possibly can.

Forrest Wells

OOC Store / KayakProShop.com manager / SUP and Kayak Instructor. Forrest is a BCU 4
star paddler, ACA open water advanced instructor, ACA SUP instructor, Alaska Kayak Guide and has 200 ton Master's ship license. He's paddled for 20+ years and is an avid outdoorsman and kayak/SUP racer. He also helps coach water polo, plays a mean guitar and can cook up a tasty oyster on the half-shell.

Drew Pennington

Drew is our go-to guy! He helps with sales in our shop and on-line store, he helps design our brochures and other images and he helps on the water with tours. Drew made the move from the tech world to the OOC world and brought his skills with him, but he's having a bit more fun now. In his free time he kayaks, researches the latest and greatest in the tech world and rides his awesome orange moped around the Kitsap Peninsula.

Gerry Guertin

Gerry is the nicest man you'll come across at our store. Along with helping to keep everyone in a good mood, he helps customers choose the right gear for their adventure and helps keep KayakProShop.com orders flowing around the world in a timely fashion. When he's not working, you can find Gerry out on his boat fishing and crabbing, or back at the beach grilling it all up!

Program and Shop Staff

The Olympic Outdoor Center wouldn't be able to survive without our amazing Staff! We range from 5 members in the winter to 20+ staff in the summer. We're honored to have some staff members who went through summer camps and loved them so much that they came to us for their first jobs, then stayed for many years.
We've had hundreds of staff throughout our long history since opening in 1985 and we are grateful for all of them!

Volunteers help us with many of our events ~ the Kitsap Water Trails Festival, Paddle Kitsap and Paddle Bainbridge. They help with everything from food preparation to being safety boaters ~ the events wouldn't happen without them.
